Went out to Rood Bridge Park, and I finally got a nice photo of a Common Merganser!

Jen and I also found out that these are Gadwalls:

I got a better photo of the little hummingbird that guards his territory.  We are pretty sure he is an Anna's hummingbird.

We found a boot, not sure how someone lost this....

I saw a bird today that I had never seen before!

It is called a Red-Crowned Kinglet. You can see the tiny bit of red on this one's head. They only show their red rough when they are agitated, so they mostly look like they spilled something on their heads.

I am surprised I even got a picture of this guy.... They only sit still for a second.

This Steller's Jay, however, was more then happy to pose for me.

And the mushroom, leaves,  and trees didn't move much either!

Jen took me out to Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge.  We saw a few birds but they were pretty far away for me to get nice photos.

Here is an American Coot. I like how it looks more like a painting then a photo.

This is a pair of Ring-necked Ducks, they only winter in Oregon.

A song sparrow:

And a Juvenile Northerner Harrier (we think it was a juvenile anyway....) harassing some geese.

I had a serious case of lens envy at one point....

He has two big lenses!

The refuge was really quite beautiful. I look forward to going there in the coming months to see how it changes with the season.

But the coolest thing we saw today, was this coyote.

It's so fluffy!!!

One last attempt for a while. I used a deeper dish this time. Thinking I would be able to take some photos through it. I was wrong.

Please note the large amount of water I spilled everywhere.....

 
All I did was make a big mess....  Joel wasn't here to help me either. I think that it is always best to have an assistant......
