Tonight you will learn how to make Microwave Mochi! (mostly because Joel wanted to be in the blog post today) Mochi is a Japanese treat that is squishy and delicious. This is a super simple way to make mochi at home with out all the work it takes to make it traditionally.

First you need to get some sweet rice flour:

This is 1 1/2 cups rice flour.

Then you use 1 cup of white sugar:

Mix:

Add the tiniest bit of salt:

Then mix in 1 1/2 cups of water with 5 drops of white vinegar:

The ratio is 2 parts sugar to 3 parts rice flour and water

Mix until it is smooth:

Since this mochi is made in the microwave, Joel came up with this cleaver idea to keep the middle of the mochi from over cooing in the center. He puts a small cup in the middle of the pie plate!

Be sure to line the pie plate with some plastic wrap, the mochi is super sticky after it is done cooking!

Cover the top with plastic wrap and microwave the mochi! Our microwave takes 12 1/2 minutes. You might need to adjust your time.

When you take it out be careful! Is is SUPER HOT!

Flip the pie dish over. You can let the mochi cool for a few minute before this step:

Remove all plastic wrap:

Cover with potato starch to stop it from sticking to everything!

Cut into bite sized pieces!

Cover all the pieces of mochi with potato starch so they don't stick together:

Now you have a bag of mochi! Enjoy!

Yay I love mochi!!
Have a good night!
